HALF MARATHON OVERVIEW

The half marathon course begins on the beach accessed at the far end of the Point Addis Car Park. The course follows the exact route of the Surf Coast Walk all the way to the finish at the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club. It’s worth familiarising yourself with the route prior to running it.

The course is non technical and well signposted. While offering plenty of wild times for experienced trail runners, the course is also perfect for road runners looking to try the trail phenomenon due to the ‘easy’ nature of the trails (and the fact you’re never too far from a latte). Coming off the Point Addis beach, runners will climb via s short set of stairs to a well graded gravel trail. Stay on this – do not take any side trails) all the way to Anglesea, enjoying the clifftop views along the way.

At Anglesea you will divert briefly onto the beach before running up the near side of the river, picking up the trail again, which takes you on a U-shaped journey around the river inlet and back to the checkpoint at the Anglesea playground. From here, follow the graded trail up past the Anglesea Surf Lifesaving club, down to Point Roadknight beach.

Crossing the spit on a sandy trail, you will drop onto a long (4km) stretch of beach, from ‘Guvvos’ to Urquahart’s beach at the other end. From here you hook right into the carpark and pick up a winding, fun trail weaving through the heathland and clifftop landscapes all the way to Split Point lighthouse and Airey’s Inlet.

Running underneath the lighthouse, drop to the Inlet, where you will make for the bridge alongside the Great Ocean Road, and shortly thereafter, drop onto Fairhaven Beach and the finishline at the Fairhaven Surf Lifesaving Club.
