COURSE OVERVIEW

CAPRA MAP (above): Click HERE to open Capra Map in a new browser. Zoom in/out.

The marathon course begins in Torquay overlooking Fisherman’s Beach foreshore.

The route initially heads north west (back towards Ocean Grove) before doubling back onto ‘Fisho’s Beach’, passing in front of the boat club and picking up the Surf Coast Walk proper along Torquay promenade.

The course follows the exact route of the Surf Coast Walk all the way to the finish at the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club. It’s worth familiarising yourself with the route prior to running it. The course is non technical and well signposted.

While offering plenty of wild times for experienced trail runners, the course is also perfect for road runners looking to try the trail phenomenon due to the ‘easy’ nature of the trails (and the fact you’re never too far from a latte).

SOLO MARATHON THE FULL SHEBANG

Marathon runners will start at Torquay and finish at the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club, taking in the entirety of the Surf Coast Walk. You legend, you.

TEAM MARATHON EVENT TOSS WHO GOES FIRST

The teams category has been introduced to allow runners to experience the marathon distance together as a team, but as individuals you only need run half a marathon. PLEASE NOTE: due to the location of the transition, the first half of the run is approx 19.6km, while the second is approx 22.5. Yep, that toss of a coin matters now, doesn’t it!? The first team runner will start at Torquay and finish at Point Addis Car Park at the transition area. The second runner needs to be ready to run well before your partner comes in, and will set off from Point Addis Car Park transition area and finish at the Fairhaven Surf Lifesaving Club. You will need to be responsible to make your way to the transition area and be ready for your team mate to arrive. There will be a bus travelling from the start line in Torquay to Point Addis at 9am. Seats are limited and must be booked online when entering.

SURF COAST WALK MAP DOWNLOAD

The Surf Coast Trail Marathon is largely based on - and highlights - the popular Surf Coast Walk, a mostly graded walking trail that follows the stunning coastline between Torquay and Fairhaven.

It’s worth familiarising yourself with the route so when you are running on course you (1) have a general idea of where you need to be going and (2) so you know the Surf Coast Walk signage, which will also get you to the finishline should all our course marking be stolen!

NOTE: this is indicative only and is specifically for the Surf Coast Walk as a tourist walking attraction. The Surf Coast Trail Marathon course proper deviates slightly from this route, especially at the beginning (we do not start from Point Impossible, we start from in front of the Salty Dog Cafe, Fisherman’s Beach, Torquay).

Click HERE or on the image too download a copy of the map. Or visit a Surf Coast Visitor Information Centre at Torquay or Anglesea for more information.
